Share

A drunk driver who struck and killed a 7-year-old boy tying his shoelaces on a South Los Angeles sidewalk was sentenced Friday to six years and eight months in sate prison.

Ascencion Diaz, 31, of Los Angeles also struck young Evellado Gil’s pregnant mother, causing her to go into labor and give birth by Caesarean section to a baby girl a short time later.

Diaz’s car also struck Gil’s 4-year-old brother in the accident last September. Both the younger boy and his mother, Margarita Estino, suffered serious injuries.
