THE COLLEGES : Baseball : Fay’s 2 Home Runs Lead UCI

Mike Fay hit two home runs and John Seeburger one as UC Irvine defeated Arizona, 10-3, Friday in a nonconference baseball game at Tucson.

Leading, 5-3, after seven innings, the Anteaters (1-1) broke the game open with a four-run eighth. Don Nicholson, who had four hits, doubled in two runs. Jeff Oberdank followed with a triple and Stacy Parker singled home Oberdank.

Dean Douty (1-0) pitched seven innings for the victory.

In another nonconference game:

Cal State Fullerton 5, Chapman 0--Keith Kaub had three hits, including a double and a home run, and Ralph Ramirez also hit a home run to lead the Titans (2-1) at Hart Park.

Kaub gave Fullerton its first run with a leadoff homer in the second. He also singled and scored in the fourth and doubled and scored on Ramirez’s three-run homer in the ninth.

Freshman left-hander Huck Flener went seven innings, allowing five hits, walking five and striking out six.
