Women’s Basketball Roundup : Cal State Long Beach Routs Fullerton, 83-48

Shannon Smith scored 14 points, and the 14th-ranked Cal State Long Beach women held Cal State Fullerton without a field goal for nearly 20 minutes of an 83-48 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory Saturday at Fullerton.

Sheryl Jones hit for the Titans (11-7 overall, 6-3 in the PCAA) with 18:41 left in the first half, and Fullerton didn’t make another shot until Jones scored again with 19:01 left in the game.

Carol Brandt added 12 points for Long Beach (10-5, 7-0), which built a 40-11 halftime lead; Penny Toler had 11 points, and Dana Wilkerson scored 10.

Gena Miller had 10 points and 17 rebounds for Fullerton.

Washington State 77, USC 60--Jonni Gray scored 29 points as the Cougars upset the No. 15 Trojans in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Pullman, Wash.

USC (11-5, 5-2) was within 68-60 with 1 1/2 minutes left, but Washington State (8-8, 3-4) scored the last nine points.

Angie Weir added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars, and Juli Reynvaan also scored 14. Paula Pyers scored 18 points for USC, and Holly Ford added 15. Cherie Nelson was held to 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Washington 82, UCLA 76--Sophomore forward Traci Thirdgill scored 21 points and Jacki Myers added 14 to lift the Huskies to a Pac-10 victory at Seattle.

UCLA trailed, 78-76, with 28 seconds to go, but the Huskies then put it away with four free throws.

Senior forward Dora Dome led the Bruins with 24 points, while center Sandra Van Embricqs scored 19. Washington, in first place in the Pac-10, improved to 15-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference. UCLA is 11-8 and 4-3.
