Four anti-apartheid demonstrators stepped in front of South African-born runner Zola Budd in the British cross-country trials but did not seriously disrupt the race at Gateshead, England.

Budd, who was forced off the course at the national championships three years ago, was able to sidestep the protesters easily on her way to finishing fourth, ensuring herself a spot in the world cross-country championships in New Zealand in March. "It didn't put me off," she said.
