The December cold snap that damaged crops throughout Southern California caused a record $51-million agricultural loss in Ventura County. Hardest hit were lemon growers, who lost 17% of their crop, or $19 million. Other losses included Valencia oranges, 15% of the crop, worth $8.3 million; avocados, 15% or $6.7 million; strawberries, 10% or $6.6 million; celery, 7% or $4.7 million, and nursery stock, 7.5% or $3.5 million.
