News Brief : Labor Leader Nominated

Share

Floyd Clay, a labor leader and Wilmington resident, has been nominated by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley to a seat on the city’s board of harbor commissioners as a replacement for Kenneth Lord, another labor leader who died Dec. 15.

If confirmed by the City Council, Clay will continue the tradition of having a labor representative on the five-member panel, which sets policies for the Port of Los Angeles. Clay’s nomination also satisfies a demand of Wilmington residents, who are often at odds with the port and have clamored for a resident to serve on the commission. Clay is business manager of Local 1437 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
