United Way of Ventura County elected its 44th president last week at its annual meeting at Oxnard’s Radisson Suite Hotel.

Laura McAvoy, a senior partner in the Oxnard law firm of Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton, replaces Michael Milligan, president of Bank of A. Levy, who headed United Way in 1986-87.

A two-year member of the United Way board, McAvoy recently held positions in the Allocations Division, which decides which agencies should receive United Way funds.
