The number of passengers who went through John Wayne Airport in December dropped by 4.9% to 326,562 from 343,440 in December, 1986. However, the total for the year jumped by 12.2% to about 4.5 million passengers from just over 4 million the year before.

The total number of airplane takeoffs and landings was 35,997 in December, down 19.1% from 44,520 in the same month of 1986. This drop is due mostly to the 22.8% decrease in general aviation (private plane) activity, which went from 37,339 operations in December, 1986 to 28,833 in December, 1987. The airport had a 7.2% decrease in total airport operations. In 1986 the airport’s total operations were 552,744 compared to 512,786 last year.
