Local News in Brief : Nurses’ Job Talks Go On

Share

Negotiations between Los Angeles County and its registered nurses will resume today, one week after the nurses were ordered to halt a three-day strike for higher wages.

A spokeswoman for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 660 said the talks would be the first since Monday. Bargaining was postponed until today due to a scheduling conflict with the state mediator.

The nurses, who staff the county’s major public hospitals and health clinics, walked out last week after talks broke down over demands that they receive 19.5% in pay hikes over the next two years. The county is offering 14.5%.

County nurses returned to their jobs last Friday after three days, when a Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted a temporary restraining order sought by the county.
