1987 Citizen of the Year Named

DeDe Hicks, whose Palos Verdes Peninsula activities have included serving as president of the Community Assn. of the Peninsula, membership on the Norris Community Theatre governing board and two terms as League of Women Voters president, has been named 1987 Citizen of the Year by the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.

Hicks will be honored at a dinner Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Los Verdes Country Club, where the guest speaker will be John Weaver, past president of the University of Wisconsin. Hicks is executive director of the South Bay/Harbor/Long Beach Volunteer Center.

The dinner also will inaugurate a new award, the Matt Brunning Excellence in Business Award, with Brunning as the first recipient. During the last 40 years, Brunning has built many buildings in Malaga Cove and Peninsula Center, as well as 14 Red Onion restaurants, 7 First Interstate Bank branches, 7 churches and 2 synagogues. He is an organizer and board chairman of Palos Verdes National Bank.
