How the Poll Was Conducted

Share

The survey of 600 Orange County adults was conducted Jan. 31 to Tuesday during evening hours, using a random sample of listed and unlisted telephone numbers. An equal number of men and women were interviewed. All respondents were guaranteed anonymity, although some agreed to be re-interviewed by a reporter.

The margin of error due to chance variations in the total sample is plus or minus 4% at the 95% confidence level. That means it is 95% certain that the results are within 4% of what they would be if every adult Orange County resident were interviewed. The sampling error for the subgroup of 505 registered voters is plus or minus 4.5%.

Sampling error is just one type of error to which opinion polls are subject. Results also may be affected by such factors as the wording of the questions, the time of interviews and survey design.
