Most western Massachusetts residents support Jane Fonda’s plans to shoot part of the movie “Union Street” in the area, according to a poll commissioned by the actress. The poll results released Monday showed that residents strongly support Fonda’s right to work, despite her on-going conflict with New England veterans groups that have complained about her Vietnam-era anti-war activities. The telephone survey of 602 residents of Springfield, Chicopee and Holyoke, Mass., found 58% of those surveyed support Fonda personally--mirroring local support for President Reagan (57%)--while an overwhelming majority (79%) believe it is time to put Vietnam-era bitterness to rest.
