George Michael, U2 and Michael Jackson won the British recording industry’s top 1988 awards. At a ceremony in London on Monday night, Jackson was named best international solo artist for his hit album “Bad,” while ex-Wham! member Michael won for best British male singer. Alison Moyet topped the poll in the female category. U2 was named top international group for its album “The Joshua Tree,” while the Pet Shop Boys were voted Britain’s best group. Rick Astley--who until six months ago worked as a waiter--took the prize for best British single for his hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.” American Terence Trent D’Arby was named top international newcomer.
