Anheuser-Busch’s profit rose 18.7% to $614.7 million in 1987, primarily as a result of a strong performance in the St. Louis company’s beer operations. Revenue was up 7.3% to $9.02 billion. Beer volume rose 5.2% to 76.1 million barrels, leading the brewing industry for the 31st consecutive year. Campbell Taggart, the company’s diversified food products subsidiary, benefited from increased sales in its bread lines, firmer price levels in the baking industry, moderate raw material costs and operating efficiencies that are the result of modernizing and consolidating bakeries.
