A wonderfully and unexpectedly fresh performance from Glenda Jackson as a woman forced to confront discrimination in the workplace binds this first film by writer-director Lezli-An Barrett. Set in Liverpool and centered around a wrongful dismissal spurred by sexual politics in a dress shop, the story is at times disjointed and polemical. But the presentation of a middle-aged woman’s radicalization is so precise and touching one ultimately has to admit that the film’s very raggedness proves to be a true asset. RECOMMENDED.
