New York Times Co. reported that its profit rose to a record $160.3 million in 1987, compared to $132.2 million in 1986. The media company attributed the improvement largely to stronger advertising and circulation in the newspaper group. The company said fourth-quarter operating profit at its newspaper group rose 12% from a year ago, to $70.6 million, and rose 11% for the year, to $271.6 million.
