Opposition to Warner Ridge

Since the Tom Friedman-organized meeting at Kadima Hebrew Academy in October, 1987, the members and leadership of the Woodland Hills Homeowners Organization have been prudently silent regarding Mr. Friedman’s position supportive of the proposed Warner Ridge development. People are entitled to their opinions. However, with the announcement in The Los Angeles Times of Feb. 4 of the creation of a homeowner coalition consisting of 105 homeowners, indicating their support for the project, we can no longer remain silent.

We therefore ask Mr. Friedman: Who are you concerned for? Both the developer, as well as the council office, are in receipt of hundreds of letters over the past 18 months opposing this project. Surely you must be aware of this. These are the concerned residents of the community, not limited to just a few streets in Carlton Terrace. The impact of Warner Ridge would be felt far beyond our local streets. Why, with overwhelming evidence of community opposition, do you continue to pursue a position contrary to strong community sentiment?

Warner Ridge Associates has announced, in a new mailing to the community, a proposed Carlton Terrace traffic-reduction plan that asks this community to live with some “minimal resident inconvenience.” Why should this community suffer any inconvenience?

This developer is proposing a 810,000-square-foot project consisting of seven buildings, plus a separate restaurant, plus the parking structures. They are now talking three seven-story buildings rather than the two proposed just four months ago. The whole project is totally inappropriate due to height and density, and it is the community that says so, not the Woodland Hills Homeowners Organization. We are but their spokesman.
