A major winter storm that hit the Northeast after battering Midwestern states moved into Canada, leaving behind more than 3 feet of snow in parts of New England. Snowfall totals included 25 inches at Crawford Notch, N. H.; more than 2 feet at Windsor and Brattleboro in southern Vermont and 23 inches at Lebanon, N. H. The National Weather Service said another 10 to 15 inches was possible in northern Maine before the snow ended. “It was a notable storm,” said George Joseph, of the weather service bureau in Burlington, Vt. “It was one of those you don’t get every day but once in a while down the road they come along.” In the wake of the storm, windy conditions and below freezing temperatures remained over the East Coast from Virginia to New England.
