Speaker’s Power

Share

Congratulations to Gloria Molina for her article concerning power politics in Sacramento (“Speaker’s Power Keeps Assembly in Line, Not on Its Toes,” Op-Ed Page, Jan. 28). The all-powerful speaker system is indeed flawed. When the vast majority of those serving in the Assembly must spend their time playing political power games, be they Democrats or Republicans, the important issues concerning all the citizens of our state are either totally ignored or given a mere touch of lip service.

If our elected officials are either unwilling or unable to institute reform of this flawed system, the voters should take care of the situation at election time.
