Local News in Brief : Hahn Files for 10th Term
County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, 67, determined to fight for an unprecedented 10th term, filed for reelection Monday, despite suggestions by some that he step aside because of a stroke that has left his speech slurred and his body partially paralyzed.
“My mind is better than ever,” said Hahn, who has been in office 36 years. “My heart is good for the people. A supervisor doesn’t vote with his left arm or left leg, he votes with his voice.”
The veteran supervisor’s nomination papers carried 40 signatures, including that of Muhammad Ali. Hahn said the former heavyweight boxing champion volunteered to push his wheelchair, should he campaign door to door.
Also filing for reelection Monday were Supervisors Mike Antonovich and Deane Dana, according to Los Angeles County registrar-recorder spokeswoman Marcia Ventura. She said the papers for county, state and judicial offices must be completed by March 11 with between 20 and 40 signatures.
