Firefighters were looking for the cause of a blaze that tore through an industrial building in Glendale on Sunday afternoon, causing an estimated $1.5 million in damage and forcing eight firefighters to be treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion, officials said. None of the injuries was considered serious.

The blaze began shortly before 3:30 p.m. at a building shared by the D&L; Binding Co. and Cal Insulated Wire Co. at Thompson and Standard avenues. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in 3 1/2 hours, according to spokesmen for the Glendale City Fire Department.

The fire sent flames 200 feet into the air and forced the temporary closing of three ramps on the Golden State Freeway, authorities said.
