Local News in Brief : La Palma : Food Giveaway Today for Low-Income People

The city’s community services department will distribute free cheese, butter and powdered milk to qualified low-income residents today, city officials said.

The food giveaway will begin at 3 p.m. in the La Palma Community Center, located in Central Park at 7821 Walker St.

Other foods to be distributed as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Surplus Commodities program include honey, flour, rice and cornmeal.

To qualify, people must prove they live within the city limits and meet the U.S. government program’s income guidelines of no more than $687.50 a month for a single-person household or $925 a month for two people, plus $237.50 per month for each additional person in the household.

Income guidelines are available at the city’s Recreation and Community Services office in Central Park. Acceptable proof of residency is either a current California driver license or a recent utility bill showing a name and address, coupled with any type of picture identification card.
