The opposition party in this tiny oil-rich Southeast Asian state has been dissolved and one of its leaders detained, diplomats said Monday.

The move against the National Democratic Party of Brunei was made public three months after the party called for the resignation of Prime Minister Muda Hassanal Bolkiah, who is also Brunei’s sultan and one of the world’s richest men.

The party’s president, Abdul Latif Hamid, was detained soon afterwards, the diplomats said.
