West Hollywood : Study on Landscaping Plan

Share

The City Council on Tuesday took an exploratory step toward creating a special funding district for landscaping improvements along Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and La Brea Avenue.

In a 4-1 vote, the council instructed the Department of Public Works to explore the possibility of setting up a special district financed by a tax assessed against merchants. Council member Abbe Land dissented.

The city spends an estimated $150,000 per year to maintain landscaping on Santa Monica Boulevard. A report by the Department of Public Works suggests that the city could recoup that amount with an assessment of $4.93 per frontage foot, or about $197 for a typical business with a frontage of 40 feet.
