Italian Prime Minister Giovanni Goria won a vote of confidence in the Chamber of Deputies, overcoming the first obstacle in an expected temporary revival of his five-party government. The vote was 364 to 208. The confidence debate now moves to the Senate, which is likely to vote today, opening the way for normal parliamentary business to resume next week. On Feb. 10, Goria told President Francesco Cossiga that his administration was resigning after a series of humiliating defeats on sections of the 1988 budget, already seven weeks overdue. Goria agreed to try again, but realignment of his troubled coalition is expected once the budget is passed.
