The Fly Papers

As “Fly”-fans, we just had to whap down the plot of “Fly II.”

OK, so the central character is Martin Brundle, son of the late Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum, who did some nasty deteriorating in “Fly I”). But Martin looks as if he’s in his early ‘20s, but he’s actually 5! (He suffers from an accelerated growth disorder.)

Martin’s surrogate father is a tricky scientist named Bartok, who’s brought him up in a laboratory environment. . . .

When along comes lab technician Beth, who’s taken aback by Martin’s childlike qualities. But--she’ll also make a man of him.

Meanwhile, Martin’s newly asserted sexuality mucks up his chromosomes. Meanwhile, Beth is in love! Meanwhile, Bartok is dismayed.

All this goes into production in April. Special effects-meister Chris Walas (he created the “Gremlins”) makes his directorial debut. Steven Charles Jaffe produces. Brothers Jim and Ken Weat scripted; Frank Darabont’s currently doing the revision.
