11 More Officers for Inglewood Urged
The Inglewood Police Department should increase the number of officers assigned to patrol by 11, a 13% increase that would improve crime prevention and response time, according to a recently completed consultant’s study.
Public Administration Service, a Virginia-based consulting firm, began the $65,000 study of police manpower and deployment a year ago at the direction of the City Council. The 200-plus-page final report will be presented to the council Tuesday for discussion.
On the question of increasing police manpower, the report recommends that the department add 11 officers to patrol by hiring five new sworn officers and transferring six more from other units. It also suggests that existing tactical units be incorporated into an enlarged Metro Division under the direction of the patrol commander. It calls for the 187-officer department to hire 11 additional civilians to free uniformed officers from clerical work.
