Community College Roundup : Orange Coast Defeats Citrus

David Miles scored 17 points and had 18 rebounds to lead Orange Coast College to a 59-42 victory over Citrus in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Orange Coast.

Dareck Crane added 15 points and Reid Lukes 10 for OCC (18-14, 5-5), which finished the regular season in a third-place tie with Saddleback.

Lamont Speed had 8 points and 8 assists for OCC. Citrus ends 6-23, 1-9.

In other Orange Empire games:

Cypress 91, Riverside 57--John Jackson scored 17 points and Karl Becker 16 for conference champion Cypress (28-5, 10-0), which has won 13 games in a row. Becker was 4 of 4 in three-point shots and is 10 of 10 in his last two games from three-point range. Kris Brodowski had 14 and Jeff Green 13 for Cypress.

Rancho Santiago 85, Saddleback 77--Chris Martin scored 22 points to lead visiting Rancho Santiago (23-7, 8-2). Alonzo Jamison added 19 and Ralph Garcia 17 for Rancho Santiago. Joe Hudson scored 26 and Vincent Smalls 21 for Saddleback (17-11, 5-5), which has lost three consecutive games.

In South Coast Conference men’s basketball:

Fullerton 93, Golden West 78--Troy Joseph scored 23 points and Kevin Patrick 19 for visiting Fullerton (18-12, 8-6). Elbert Davis scored 22 and Anthony Howard 17 for Golden West (15-15, 5-9).

In the Casey Stengel baseball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 15, Cerritos 4--Rancho Santiago (7-0), the top-ranked team in the state, was led by Rich Gonzales’ 3 hits and 5 RBIs. Cerritos (7-2) is the second-ranked team in the state.

In the Modesto tournament:

Fullerton 10, De Anza 2--Scott Einhorn had 3 hits and 4 RBIs for Fullerton (7-2-1). Mike Oziminski, Fred Camalena and Rod Klopfer had two hits each for Fullerton.

In the Mt. San Antonio tournament:

Mt. San Antonio 7, Saddleback 6--Bill Lasher, Matt Lundin and Chris Latham had two hits each for Saddleback (4-4), which was eliminated. Saddleback lost to Santa Monica, 13-12, earlier Saturday.

In nonconference games:

Cypress 19, San Diego City 4--Bobby Thome had 3 hits and 5 RBIs for host Cypress. Tim Churchill had 3 hits, including his fourth home run of the season, and 3 RBIs. Churchill has 24 RBIs in 10 games.

Golden West 9, Palomar 2--Mike Huyler hit a home run for host Golden West (5-2). Tom Thobe (2-0) pitched into the eighth inning to get the victory.
