A 24-year-old passenger in a van involved in a fatal accident on Laguna Canyon Road remained in critical condition Sunday, while the van’s driver succumbed to injuries suffered in the three-car collision, authorities said.

Edward Delosreyes of Anaheim, who was involved in a head-on collision Friday evening, then was hit by a third car, remained in critical condition at Mission Regional Hospital Medical Center in Mission Viejo, hospital officials said.

The driver of the van, Joe Tovar, 59, of Placentia, died at 12:50 a.m. Saturday at Saddleback Community Hospital of injuries suffered in the head-on collision, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident occurred about 6:20 p.m. Friday, when a southbound car driven by Kelvin Price, 33, of Laguna Niguel swerved into the northbound lane, striking the van. Delosreyes and Tovar were thrown from the vehicle and Delosreyes was hit by another northbound van driven by Keith Ring, 24, of Anaheim, CHP officials said.

Ring, who was treated for minor injuries at Saddleback Community Hospital, was arrested and charged with drunken driving. He remained in Orange County Jail on Sunday in lieu of $10,000 bail.

CHP officials said Price was apparently killed on impact. The accident occurred about 1.8 miles north of El Toro Road and closed Laguna Canyon Road--considered among the most dangerous roads in the state--for more than three hours.
