According to KPBS chief engineer Mike Starling, FM reception is limited by “line of sight.” In areas of flat terrain, this doesn’t present a problem, but in San Diego, which is built largely on finger canyons, ocean bluffs and valleys, it frequently does.

To help local FM listeners make the best of a bad situation, KPBS has published a free brochure, “Five Tips on How to Improve Your FM Reception in San Diego.” Suggestions range from changing the location of your receiver to hooking your radio up to your television antenna.

The brochure is available by calling 265-6431.
