The Egyptian-born business tycoon who last year staged the opera “Aida” at the ancient Temple of Luxor now has his eyes set on Buckingham Palace, Great Britain’s Press Assn. news service reported. Fawzi Metwalli said he planned to ask Queen Elizabeth for permission to stage a charity opera on her palace grounds with proceeds going to AIDS research and poor children. But Buckingham Palace said no request had been received. Meanwhile, Metwalli is expected to furnish more details next week in Paris on plans to stage Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier” and Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the palace of Versailles in July, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. The globe-trotting Metwalli also wants to stage Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov” at the Kremlin.
