Bomb Injures 14 During Philippine Revolution Fete

A bomb exploded today along a crowded boulevard where tens of thousands of Filipinos celebrated the second anniversary of the popular revolution that ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Elisa Florido, a nurse at the Medical City Hospital, said 14 people were injured, mostly by flying glass and debris. None were seriously hurt, she said, and there were no reports of fatalities.

Police said initial reports indicated that the device that exploded about 10 p.m. was a homemade bomb. No one immediately claimed responsibility.

President Corazon Aquino and other dignitaries who took part in the day’s event apparently were not at the scene when the bomb exploded. The military had been on full alert in case communist rebels or right-wing dissidents tried to disrupt the celebrations.
