The FCC will require large U.S. telecommunications firms to report the equipment they purchase so it can determine how much is foreign-made. In addition, foreign-owned telephone firms offering domestic telecommunications service in the United States must report the extent of their business and revenue. The requirement followed complaints by American firms that foreign governments are limiting access to their markets while U.S. markets remain open to imports.
