More than 800 videocassette tapes and 15 VCRs were seized from a Glendale video rental store that allegedly copied the tapes illegally, U.S. marshals said Thursday.

The seizure Wednesday at Indra Video on Verdugo Road was conducted under a federal court order obtained by the Motion Picture Assn. of America as part of a continuing crackdown on videocassette piracy, said Lisa Gurchiek, attorney for the nine-studio organization.

Officials confiscated more than 100 movie titles, Gurchiek said. The confiscated tapes included 81 copies of “RoboCop,” 59 copies of “No Way Out,” 52 copies of “Predator,” 40 copies of “Spaceballs,” 33 copies of “La Bamba” and 33 copies of “Revenge of the Nerds.”

The studios represented by MPAA have filed civil copyright infringement and unfair trade practices charges against the owner of the store, who faces fines between $250 and $2,000 for each movie title seized, Gurchiek said.
