Just as NBC suggested, I watched the Feb. 6 episode of “Facts of Life” with my family. Was that their idea of a joke? How do I explain to my 11-year-old daughter that contrary to everything she’s heard and learned, AIDS should not be a factor in making love. After all, Natalie and her beau never discussed AIDS or the requisite blood tests. Clearly they would have had the time since they did have the time to purchase three contraceptive devices.

And how do I explain that sleeping with a man once is not necessarily the best way to get him to propose marriage? (The very noble Natalie rejected his proposal; will she keep sleeping with him without “honest intentions” or is this the first of her presumably many one-night stands?) What a truly heinous message to convey to teen-agers.
