Chrysler Corp. hopes to add passenger cars to the line of Jeeps it already produces in China, a top official of the auto maker said. Gerald Greenwald, head of the Chrysler Motors division of Chrysler Corp., said his company was negotiating with First Automotive Works of Changchun, in northeast China, to produce upscale autos for use as official cars and taxis. If successful, Chrysler would be the first American auto maker to set up passenger car production in China, and the third foreign company. Peugeot has a small joint venture in Canton, and Volkswagen produces about 10,000 vehicles a year at its Shanghai plant.
