Fidel Castro has questioned Republican presidential candidate Pat Robertson’s mental health and advised him to seek professional help.

Castro’s remarks about the former religious broadcaster, in an interview released on Saturday, marked his response to Robertson’s recent claim that Soviet nuclear missiles were based in Cuba.

The White House has denied that Soviet SS-4 and SS-5 missiles were on the island and a soft-spoken Castro had only one dry comment:

“I would advise him to go and see a doctor, really, or a psychiatrist, because this is pure madness.”

Castro was speaking to NBC News in a wide-ranging interview that touched on all international issues, including Cuba’s relations with the United States.
