More than 120 firefighters fought for eight hours to bring a lumber mill fire under control in the Mendocino County community of Willits. The blaze, during which flames shot at least 150 feet into the sky, severely damaged the Harwood “B” lumber mill, one of the town’s largest employers. “It’s basically a very large pile of coals,” said Assistant Fire Chief Joe Mondo of the Little Lake Fire Protection District. Damage was estimated at between $1.5 million and $2 million. No one was injured.
