Dodgers : Howell Pitches Impressively

Share

Dodger pitcher Ken Howell, coming off surgery to his right shoulder and also trying to develop a curveball, pitched two impressive innings Tuesday in a simulated game at the team’s training camp.

“He was outstanding with his curve,” pitching coach Ron Perranoski said. “He’s got to build up his shoulder, but more important, he needed to work on more than one pitch.

“This was the first time (this spring) he’s faced live hitting, and I was encouraged. Before, he had a fastball and a hard slider, and that wasn’t enough. If he put that fastball out over the plate, (hitters) would spit at it.”

Howell said his shoulder felt strong and was happy with his performance. Don Sutton pitched three innings in the simulated game, and Perranoski said Sutton is on schedule.
