Economists report that the Israeli economy is showing signs of a slowdown that may be linked to the 12-week-old Palestinian uprising in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israel’s Treasury said tax collection had dropped slightly in February, and a Housing Ministry official said there was a definite decline in apartment purchases in Jewish settlements in the occupied areas. Tourism showed only a slight drop since the uprising began, but officials fear that the widely reported violence could keep away significant numbers of visitors in the coming months.
