Owners of rental property in Avalon will be asked to complete a survey about providing affordable housing to families employed by Santa Catalina Island’s tourist industry.
The City Council unanimously approved the survey this week in an effort to encourage property owners to rent to tourist industry workers.
A shortage of housing for low- and moderate-income families is an acute problem in Avalon. Construction of affordable housing has been slowed by a moratorium pending improvements to the community’s sewage treatment plant.
