Israeli Troops Switch to Fiberglass Batons
The Israeli army has replaced wooden clubs used to beat Palestinian demonstrators with batons made of black fiberglass that do not break as easily, an army spokesman said Thursday.
He confirmed a report in the Davar newspaper that the army decided to order new fiberglass truncheons after soldiers’ hands were cut when the wooden clubs broke in their hands.
The Labor-aligned newspaper said the army had run out of wooden clubs used against protesters during a three-month uprising in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip in which hundreds of Palestinians have been beaten.
