Youth Suffered Fatal Head Injury in INS Raid
A 17-year-old Mexican national who was fatally injured in a Border Patrol raid in Madera suffered a skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage, according to preliminary findings released by the Fresno County coroner’s office Thursday.
The death of Ismael Ramirez last month raised an outcry from immigrant and civil rights advocates, who accused Border Patrol agents of using excessive force in the youth’s arrest.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service characterized the death of Ramirez as an “unfortunate accident” when he fell and hit his head while fleeing agents. An investigation is under way.
