The Orange Police Department, continuing the arrests of suspected illegal aliens along East Chapman Avenue, apprehended six more men Saturday and turned them over to the U. S. Border Patrol for deportation.

Saturday’s arrests brought to 141 the number of people the department has turned over to the Border Patrol since Feb. 26.

The arrests have sparked protests from civil rights and immigrant rights groups in the county.

The Police Department and city officials have maintained that the arrests will continue indefinitely.

Police officials have said the action is a response to complaints by residents and business owners along the street about large numbers of day laborers who congregate there.

Orange Police Sgt. Mannie Ortega said officers have been instructed to continue with arrests of all people cited for minor infractions who cannot produce proof of U. S. citizenship.
