The last of the 10 unions at the New York Post overwhelmingly approved a new contract, clearing the way for the sale of the paper to developer Peter Kalikow. The Newspaper Pressmen’s Union discussed for two hours the package of concessions required by Kalikow before voting 221 to 12 to accept it, Lenny Higgins, union president, said. Union leaders had recommended approval of the contract. Rejection by any of the unions could have derailed an agreement by Kalikow to buy the newspaper from Rupert Murdoch, who is under pressure to sell because of federal rules banning ownership of both a newspaper and television station in the same city. Kalikow has pledged to keep the paper open for at least a year.
