Gang Problems in Los Angeles

Share

I read the gang warfare story where 50 people were shot at 1:35 a.m. in front of Taco Bell on Beverly and Rampart (Metro, Feb. 22). Three teen-agers and one adult were wounded. If you know the area, the Rampart police station is one block away, and if police would have enforced the curfew law the 14-, 15-, and 17-year-old youths or anybody else who’s not supposed to be out after 10 p.m. might not have been hurt.

I know that Beverly and Rampart corner is a popular after-hours hangout for youths, and if the police would enforce the curfew law, we all would read less about youths getting hurt. When parents and police let these youths roam the streets after hours, they end up being recruited by some gang, and then one day they’re the ones doing the shooting, or they end up doing something illegal to make money to support their late-night activities.
