Nurses at Stanford University Hospital have rejected the hospital’s latest contract offer and plan to take a strike vote this week, union leaders said. The nurses “overwhelmingly” rejected the offer Friday and will vote today on whether to go on strike. The nurses are required to give 10 days’ strike notice to hospital administrators. Donalda Dunnett, a spokeswoman for the Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement, the nurses’ union, said the Stanford offer included 5% wage increases in each of the two years of the contract. The nurses seek 6%. They currently make $13.88 to $20.62 an hour, Dunnett said. Other issues in dispute include staffing levels and overtime, she added. The contract for the nurses’ union, covering 1,500 employees at the hospital, expired Feb. 28. The nurses last struck in 1974 for 11 days.
