Two blacks described by police as “trained terrorists” were killed and six policemen were slightly injured in a shoot-out at a house in the southern city of Queenstown, police said Monday.

Acting on a tip, police surrounded the house on Friday afternoon and ordered the inhabitants to leave. When the occupants refused, police threw “stun grenades” into the house, authorities said. A stun grenade contains no shrapnel and is considered non-lethal.

A shoot-out ensued, and two black men inside the house were killed. The six officers suffered minor injuries, according to a police statement. It did not say how police knew the men were “trained terrorists.”
