U.S. Policy in Central America

Share

Dick Brukenfeld’s Op-Ed article (“A Historically Valid, All-American Solution to Nicaragua: Buy It,” Feb. 28) was supposed to be humorous, but in fact, was disgusting. The U.S. capitalist mentality that believes that everything and everyone can be bought reveals the degeneration in U.S. thought and morality.

What has inspired tens of thousands of U.S. citizens who have visited and studied Nicaragua is the integrity and incorruptibility of the Sandinistas--they are willing to suffer and die rather than to sell their sovereignty, freedom, and self-determination ( “Patria libre o morir” ) despite the huge sums of money the U.S. and the CIA make available to the Somozas, Duartes, Noriegas and others, as elucidated so well by Powers.
