Corsican Separatists Kill Police Officer

AJACCIO, Corsica —
Suspected Corsican separatist guerrillas in a fast-moving car sprayed a police barracks with automatic weapons fire and hurled a grenade at the building Tuesday, fatally wounding a policeman, police said.
The attack on the Battesti police barracks in the Corsican capital of Ajaccio occurred shortly after militants of the clandestine National Front for the Liberation of Corsica told a news conference that they will step up their campaign for greater autonomy for the French-administered Mediterranean island.
